Canada Citizenship Days Calculator
Canadian citizenship requires 1,095 days physically in Canada during the 5 years before you apply — with time before your PR date counting half, up to 365 credited days. Enter your trips and your PR date; the tool runs IRCC's counting rules. The full rule guide covers the details.
1 · Your trips outside Canada
Add every trip outside Canada during the qualifying window. The days you depart and return count as days inside — only whole days away count as absences, which matches how the authorities count.

How IRCC counts (and how people miscount)
- Any part of a day in Canada is a full day — departure and return days included.
- Pre-PR days count half, capped at 365 credited days, and only days with lawful temporary status count at all.
- The window is fixed to your application date — days older than 5 years fall out entirely. If your heavy Canada years are aging out, applying sooner can literally count for more.
- Apply with a buffer. A forgotten weekend in the US can drop you under 1,095 after you file; IRCC returns applications that don't meet the count on the signature date.

Each day you were physically in Canada as a temporary resident (worker, student, visitor with status) before becoming a PR counts as half a day, up to a maximum credit of 365 days. So a former student or worker can reach 1,095 with as little as 730 post-PR days.
Yes — any day with any physical presence in Canada counts in full, including the days you leave and return. This calculator counts them that way, matching IRCC's own presence calculator.
No. Keeping PR needs 730 days in every rolling 5-year window; citizenship needs 1,095 in the 5 years before applying, with the half-day pre-PR credit. You must keep satisfying the PR obligation while you build toward citizenship.
Yes — you must have filed Canadian income tax for at least 3 years within the 5-year period, if required to do so under the Income Tax Act. Presence alone isn't quite the whole test.
