Presence is necessary — reckonable is the real test
This calculator counts physical presence; the statute counts reckonable residence — presence with the right immigration permission. Before trusting the total:
- Check your stamps. Stamp 1, 3, 4, and 5 time counts; Stamp 2 (student) and asylum-stage time generally doesn't. EU/EEA nationals count all residence.
- The structure is 1 + 4: the final 365 days must be continuous (≤70 absence days), and the other 1,460 reckonable days must fall in the 8 years before that year.
- Spouses of Irish citizens need 3 of the last 5 years (1,095 days) with the same continuous final year.
