What is Bounded?

The three tabs

• Home — your overview: where you are now, a travel map shaded by days spent, your country of residence, the day counters you track, and statistics like countries visited, border crossings, and travel days.
• History — every day Bounded has counted, as a list of stays or a calendar, with the full detail behind each trip — including the trips you have planned ahead.
• You — your residence and goals, your passports, visas, and residency permits, data export, support, and the gear that opens Settings: tracking controls, notifications, and widgets.

How the counting works

Bounded builds your travel timeline from five sources, and you can mix them freely:

• Your photos — Bounded rebuilds years of past travel in seconds by reading the GPS tags on your camera roll, entirely on your device.
• GPS tracking — with location access, Bounded detects border crossings automatically and logs your country each day in the background. Days far from any coast are recorded as International Waters.
• Imported files — a Google Timeline export, a Flighty flight list, a TripIt calendar, or a CSV can backfill years of travel in one go, reviewed on your device before anything is saved.
• Manual trips — you can always add or edit trips by hand; manual entries take priority over automatic data.
• Planned trips — trips dated in the future are kept as plans and swapped for real data as each day arrives, so your counters can look ahead.

Counters and rules

A counter tracks one rule — like the Schengen 90/180 tourist limit or a 183-day tax-residency threshold — against your timeline. Bounded ships with nearly 150 built-in counters covering visas, tax residency, and residency or citizenship requirements, including US state and city rules, and you can build your own for anything else.

Private by design

Your location history and photo metadata never leave your phone. Bounded needs no account, and there is no server that stores your travel data. Read more in Privacy: how Bounded handles your data.

Platforms and pricing

Bounded is available for iPhone on the App Store and for Android on Google Play. It is free to download and includes a free trial; continued access to features like automatic tracking, counter breakdowns, travel import, exports, and live widget data is available through a subscription.
